An inbox with AI, or a team that runs the sale

Wati and Respond.io are built to manage WhatsApp conversations at scale. TOPPP is built to run your playbook in customer conversations on the channels connected in your setup, with your handoff line and a review workbench between it and your customers.

Two different products, one buying moment

Wati and Respond.io are WhatsApp conversation platforms: a shared inbox, broadcasts, workflow automation, and an AI layer on top. TOPPP is an AI sales team built to the playbook you have already proven — on the customer channels connected in your setup, it works a conversation through stages you define, gets checked before it talks to anyone, and hands a thread to a person the moment you say so. If what you need is the inbox, buy the inbox.

  • Choose a WhatsApp platform when…

You need broadcasts, templates and a shared inbox for human reps, and the AI layer only has to catch easy questions.

  • Choose TOPPP when…

You have a playbook that closes and want conversations on the channels connected in your setup to run that way — checked before launch, on a handoff line you draw.

Two shapes, six differences

Every line about Wati and Respond.io below comes from the way they describe themselves. Checked August 2026 — vendors change, so this page is re-checked every quarter.

What the product is

Wati · Respond.io
Wati calls itself “the #1 WhatsApp growth platform”. Respond.io calls itself “#1 AI-Powered Customer Conversation Management Software”. Both are an inbox, broadcasts and workflow automation, with AI added on top.
TOPPP
An AI sales team configured from your playbook — roles, stages, tools and a knowledge base, each bound to the worker that uses it.

What the AI layer says it does

Wati · Respond.io
Wati says its Inbound Intelligence Agent can “qualify leads, uncover intent, and close sales on chat”. Respond.io says its AI Agents “filter spam and route only high-intent buyers”.
TOPPP
Runs the sale: opening, intent tiering, objection handling, follow-up across days, and knowing when to stop.

How a conversation advances

Wati · Respond.io
Workflow automation you build, with the AI layer answering what it can.
TOPPP
A stage machine. Each stage carries a goal, its own instructions, and a guard rule that decides whether the conversation may move on.

What stands between it and your customer

Wati · Respond.io
Not what either platform sells. Their story is the inbox, the broadcast and the automation.
TOPPP
A review workbench. Must-say and must-never-say assertions, sensitive-topic limits, required and forbidden tool calls, plus a judge model — scored on your own failure cases before anything goes live.

When a person steps in

Wati · Respond.io
A shared inbox is built for people, so any rep can pick up a thread. That is a real strength.
TOPPP
AI handling is switched per contact. One customer moves to a person while every other conversation keeps running, and the handoff is invisible to the customer.

How deep customisation goes

Wati · Respond.io
Templates, flows, and the settings on the AI layer. Building around one company’s own sales method is not part of the pitch.
TOPPP
Your playbook, your roles, your review criteria, your handoff line. Custom does not mean built from scratch — the engine is shared, the business logic is yours.

Quotes are from Wati’s and Respond.io’s own sites, checked August 2026. Both sit in the same G2 review range (roughly 480 to 500 each), so this is not big versus small. It is two shapes compared.

Four things that decide if AI can face a customer

None of these are switches. They are why the customer hears your answer, not the industry average.

  1. MECH / 01

    Stages, not prompts

Every stage carries a goal, its own instructions, and a guard that decides when the conversation may move on.

  2. MECH / 02

    Checked before it ships

Must say, must never say, sensitive-topic limits, tools it must and must not call — plus a judge model, scored on your own cases.

  3. MECH / 03

    Handoff per contact

Move one customer to a person; the rest keep running. The customer sees one continuous thread.

  4. MECH / 04

    Every run replays

Each round of reasoning, every tool call, and how long it took — kept against a trace you can play back.

A person steps in; the customer sees nothing change

Taking over is not switching the AI off. Handling is set per contact: you draw the line, and past it one thread goes to a person while the rest keep running.

  • Per-contact switch

AI handling is a state on each customer, not a global mode. Move one customer out and the rest are untouched.

  • Handoff runs backstage

The switch happens behind the scenes. The customer keeps one thread, one identity, and no transfer notice.

  • Replay by round

Every round of reasoning and every tool call is kept, so whoever takes over can see how the conversation got here.

When you should not buy this

Nothing here is a reason to switch for its own sake. Three cases where the honest answer is no. Every customer sits inside its own tenant scope, and we do not train models on your customer conversations.

  • Stay on your inbox platform

If WhatsApp is where you broadcast to a list, and the sale itself happens on a call one of your reps makes, an inbox is the right tool and a cheaper one.

  • Don’t buy custom for FAQs

If you want something that answers common questions and stops there, a smaller tool does it. Custom only pays back when there is a playbook worth replicating.

  • It stops where you say

Deal size, customer type, risk — you draw the line; past it the thread goes to a person. No pushing through, no bluffing.

Questions you probably have

Is TOPPP just another AI layer on top of an inbox?

No. TOPPP is an AI Sales Agent Platform: sales workers are configured from a company’s own playbook (roles, stages, tools and knowledge), and every stage carries a goal plus a guard rule that decides when the conversation may move on. An inbox platform manages conversations; TOPPP runs the sales process on customer channels already connected to the deployment.

What stops TOPPP from saying the wrong thing to a customer?

Three layers. Before launch, a review workbench scores each case on deterministic assertions (must-say, must-never-say, sensitive-topic limits, required and forbidden tools) plus a judge model; nothing goes live without passing. After launch, problem conversations feed iteration. A person can take the thread at any time.

Can one conversation go to a person without switching the AI off everywhere?

Yes. In TOPPP, AI handling is switched per contact: one customer moves to a person while the rest keep running. The handoff is invisible to the customer.

Isn’t custom slow and expensive?

Custom is not built from scratch. TOPPP is customisation on a platform: the engine is shared, the business logic is yours. Config changes are saved as versions and applied explicitly, so each one can be reviewed, scored, and rolled back.

Bring your playbook — watch it become a team

A demo takes about 30 minutes and covers three things:

  1. 01Map your current sales playbook and find what AI should take
  2. 02Show how your method becomes an AI closing team
  3. 03Run both ledgers — conversion and cost — on your own numbers
